Chevron Announces Discovery Of New Deepwater Well In Gulf

Chevron Corp. has discovered a new deepwater well in the Gulf of Mexico, about 190 miles off the coast of Louisiana. The well, in 6,172 feet of water and drilling to a depth of 31,866, is still being investigated.

This is yet another step in the oil giant’s large-scale projects aimed at increasing its worldwide oil production. Other new projects include a natural gas project in Australia and other deepwater oil wells in the Gulf.

Offshore injury lawyers have taken notice of the fact that Gulf drilling has increased to almost pre-Deepwater Horizon explosion levels. The federal government is again granting new drilling permits, and drilling activity has been steadily rising.

This increase in drilling activity is promising for Gulf Coast economies that are greatly dependent on oil- and gas-related operations, as long as drilling permits are issued with a stern eye to compliants with safety regulations.
