The Texas Coast Guard medevaced a crewman from a fishing vessel approximately 40 miles south of South Padre Island, Tuesday.

An HH-65C Dolphin Helicopter crew hoisted the injured fisherman at 12:20 p.m.  Crews coordinated with emergency medical services and personnel from Customs and Border Protection for the man to be flown to Brownsville Air Port and transported to a local hospital.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a request for a medevac at 10 a.m., from the Mexican Rescue Command Center in Tampico, Mexico, stating that a man aboard the Gijon IX had reportedly suffered from a laceration on his head while working on deck.

The man’s condition is unknown.

Commercial fishing is the most dangerous job in America.  The work is physically demanding, and requires long hours.  Our Houston, Texas maritime lawyers are here to help commercial fishermen who suffer serious personal injury or death as a result of an accident or sinking.  Even if you are not an American citizen, if you are working as a crewman aboard a commercial fishing boat, maritime law protects you.  The boat owner and/or operator can be required to pay for your medical treatment and maintenance pay until you are considered “cured.”
